About American Preparedness
American Preparedness was formed January 1, 1981 in Seattle, WA. Its purpose was to provide the American People a low cost emergency preparedness kit that would sustain one or more people for 3 days. A few years later we began working with the Seattle chapter of the American Red Cross to help them raise additional revenue to keep their workers employed. Through this association we produced standards for first aid and emergency preparedness kits to meet the varied needs of the community.
During the past 28 years we have donated thousands of emergency kits to low income families, low income school kids, and low income military families. We have also, through the American Red Cross, sold approximately 30 million dollars of first aid and emergency preparedness supplies. The profits the Red Cross made went straight back into the local community to help with community needs. We take pride in being the first to produce the modern emergency preparedness kits through partnership with the national American Red Cross and their many chapters. Besides continuing to work with the American Red Cross we also work with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary to provide free kits to low income military families.
Our emergency preparedness kits contain over 50% US made products. The food bars and drinking water pouches in our kits have a five year shelf life. They are made by Datrex and have been approved by both the American and Canadian Coast Guards.
Through the years we have employed military veterans and disabled veterans to assemble our emergency kits. Our Service Disabled Veteran Owned business has been recognized by the Undersecretary of Veterans Affairs in Washington DC for our service to the community and for being a commendable example to other veteran owned business.
